Ocean Salt Electrolytes

Ocean Salt Electrolytes

The Salty Sip

Good morning from The Salty Sip blog! If you are new to ‘Get Salted,’ allow me to explain our company and philosophy. Founded by athletes, we believe in hard work; however, we believe in working smart as well. As an avid, long-time electrolyte user, our founder realized that every single competitor was saying the exact same thing: you NEED more salt. Then, they proceed to give their consumers the cheapest, lowest quality salt available, ultimately prioritizing profit over people. As electrolytes are often marketed towards athletes, nursing mothers, pregnant women, and individuals with particular health needs, we found this appalling, and downright wrong.

While we agree at Get Salted that you DO need salt and a proper balance of electrolytes for optimal hydration, we do not agree with the typical course of action, or the belief that any salt will suffice. At Get Salted, we believe you need salt, but all salt is not created equally. We are committed to delivering you the highest quality with our products.

After an abundance of research, testing, and sampling materials, Get Salted set forth to create a formula that gives consumers the boost of electrolytes they need, WITHOUT cutting corners on the inputs. Salt is not created equally, and there is an incredible salt hierarchy out there.

Most electrolyte stick packs have either low quality table salt, (‘sodium chloride’), or ‘Pink Himalayan Sea Salt’ as their number one ingredient. At Get Salted, we have sourced the highest quality- pure, sun-dried ocean sea salt. We truly believe in the healing qualities and properties of the ocean, and have set out to bring that with our product.

Do you know where pink himalayan sea salt comes from? I’ll give you a hint- not the ocean. Despite its name, pink Himalayan salt is not sourced from the sea. Instead, it comes from land-based salt mines that were formed by the drying up of prehistoric bodies of water. Pink Himalayan salt is primarily mined from the Khewra Salt Mine in the foothills of the Himalayas, located in Punjab, Pakistan. This was enough to get our attention. We wanted to create a real, living sea salt product, derived directly from the ocean… and not just any ocean. We are using USA sea salt and local artisanal sea salt providers to deliver you the highest quality of salt available. Pink Himalayan sea salt has also raised material health concerns for our team. Independent testing has revealed that pink Himalayan salt can contain trace amounts of heavy metals, including lead, due to its natural mineral composition. It can include trace amounts of other heavy metals, such as arsenic, or cadmium, depending on the geological composition of the source.

Similarly, when a product uses the ever-so-vague ‘sodium chloride’ moniker, these are some key considerations: this salt is likely highly refined, contains additives, and potential bleaching. While not always explicitly stated, sodium chloride in this form may have been chemically treated or bleached during processing to ensure uniform whiteness and a fine texture.

Bleaching is more common in mass-produced table salts. It may include anti-caking agents to prevent clumping (e.g., calcium silicate or magnesium carbonate). Again, the exact opposite of our vision at Get Salted.

We have so much to be excited about on our end- we are the first electrolyte provider to use locally sourced OCEAN salt. We have some exciting geographically-based salt lines that we cannot wait to share with you in 2025. We are simply taking it one step further than every other electrolyte competitor. We know you need salt- but we are not stopping there.
